Social robots are being marketed as cute household helpers or playmates for children. Several models are coming onto the market in 2016 and demand is high. But these social robots have some downsides, too.

Social robots become part of the family

Social robots are equipped with camera and microphones. They can receive messages, facilitate video chats and play music. But more than that, they're able to interact with humans: they can talk, recognize emotions and are capable of learning. This makes social robots attractive. But the household helpers do have some drawbacks, as their networked technology makes them susceptible to hackers.
