Spanis football suspended

Who will win Spain's top division? Well, no-one, possibly. The Spanish football federation has suspended all games over a row on TV rights in the country.

The Spanish football federation confirmed on Wednesday that all domestic matches will be cancelled over a row involving television rights.

The proposed lockdown called by the Spanish football federation (RFEF) will affect the penultimate fixtures of the Spanish season taking place over the weekend starting May 16.

The RFEF said in a statement it had decided to suspend all matches from May 16 onward because of "the Spanish government's disrespectful attitude toward the federation with regard to this decree, and its failure to resolve other questions raised."

The suspension, will affect more than 600,000 players, 30,000 matches and 15,000 amateur clubs.

"At the same time, once more we reiterate the RFEF is open to dialogue with the Spanish government," the statement continued.

RFEF and the players' union are taking the measure to argue against a proposed law on the sale of television rights and how the income from this is divided among clubs.

The Spanish league has announced it will be taking legal measures against the RFEF for suspending all domestic matches from May 16.
