Spending More Than a Penny in Germany

A man in southern Germany was flush with cash when he visited a a public toilet. But he relieved himself of more than just a full bladder when he accidentally left behind a bundle of bills.

He went to spend a penny and ended up losing 30 grand.

A 29-year-old in Aschaffenburg in northern Bavaria took the concept of pay toilets to a new level on Monday when he stopped in at a public restroom and left an envelope with 30,000 euros ($36,840) on the ground.

Unfortunately for him, another patron didn't mind cleaning up after him. The unlucky man returned to the restroom just five minutes after realizing his mistake, but when he went to pick up his droppings, he was too late -- the bag was gone.

The man was supposed to be delivering the money to the bank for his bosses, a police spokesman in the town of Aschaffenburg, near Frankfurt, told the Associated Press.

"He wasn't insured and it looks like he will be liable," the spokesman said. "We're always a bit suspicious when we hear these kinds of stories but this one appears to be genuine."

Police are looking for the missing money. But in the meantime, the absent-minded courier may want to start polishing his resume -- or at least practice holding his bladder.
