One of the main components to the Dortmund defense and midfield, Sven Bender, has inked a contract extension that would keep him at Signal Iduna Park until 2021.

"I want to thank Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and Thomas Tuchel for the trust placed in me," said Bender in a club statement.

He has played in 144 Bundesliga matches with Dortmund, the only club he has known since his move from 1860. He was also part of the back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 and the DFB Pokal win in 2012. Though he has had a tough season due to injury, he is still loved the same in Dortmund.

"Sven Bender is an extremely important unifying figure due to his undoubted athletic ability. I am personally very pleased that such a strong character player has chosen a sustainable future at BVB, "said Hans-Joachim Watzke, Borussia Dortmund CEO.
