Sweden: More than just Ikea

Swedish food is already well-known to many people thanks to the famous furniture store. Christer makes a convincing case that his home can also attract visitors with the promise of culture and the royal atmosphere.

Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden is located in Northern Europe.



There are numerous reasons why Sweden should be everyone’s next travel destination. It is a fairly large country with a small population which means that you will be able to enjoy peace and tranquillity in often enchanting natural surroundings. With a bit of luck you'll even catch sight of an elk at dawn or dusk when this huge animal leaves the deep forests in search of water. But be careful when driving through the forests as an encounter with an elk might have disastrous consequences.

If you get tired of the quiet rural life, why not pay a visit to Sweden’s capital city, Stockholm. It is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the north as it was build on a number of islands. When walking around in the Old City, the sea is never far away. Don't forget to also visit the Vasa Museum which houses an old warship that rested on the bottom of the Baltic Sea for hundreds of years. Hopefully this impressive ship can be preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Another must see attraction during your visit to Stockholm is the Royal Palace. Although a modern and democratic nation, Sweden is still a kingdom and with a bit of luck you'll catch sight of His Majesty the King or the Crown Princess.

Finally before you return home definitely don't forget to taste Swedish meatballs– but perhaps you have already tried this Swedish culinary speciality at your nearest IKEA store?
