Taliban Threatens Pakistani Media

01/05/09May 1, 2009

The Pakistani military said it had killed up to 60 militants in recent fighting in the north-western valley of Buner on Friday. Two paramilitary soldiers were also killed and eight injured. The army has launched a major offensive against the Taliban fighters, who entered the region late last month. Meanwhile, the media in the country are coming under increasing pressure from the Taliban. Media activists say that militants have threatened journalists with "dire consequences" if they report negatively about the Taliban.
