Lawmakers in Washington have so far failed to agree on a rescue package for the country's troubled financial institutions. A meeting on Thursday between the president and congressional leaders made no progress. A spokesman for Republican presidential candidate John McCain said the meeting degenerated into a "shouting match". Both McCain and his Democratic rival Barack Obama attended the meeting. With negotiations on a bailout continuing, it's unclear whether the candiates will go ahead with the presidential debate scheduled for tonight. .
