A Thai Airways plane en route to Bangkok was forced to jettison 45 tons of fuel over southwest Germany so it could return and safely land in Zurich after having technical

problems, the Swiss aviation authority Skyguide said. The MD 11 passenger jet, en route from Zurich to Bangkok, was flying at a height of 3,660 meters (12,000 feet) around noon local time over the Black Forest between Schwenningen and Schluchsee when it dumped 45 tons of jet fuel. Skyguide said the fuel had to be dumped so that the plane could attain a safe weight to land at Zurich after having technical problems. It said that the fuel dumping presented no danger for people or the environment.
