In a field dominated by men, Zaha Hadid has established herself as one of the most influential architects in the world. She was the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize, which is considered the equivalent of the Nobel Prize of architecture, as well as several other major awards.

Many of her very ambitious projects turn out taking much more time - and money - than planned. Most recently, the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe cancelled her Olympic Stadium project. It was on track to become the world's most expensive, with costs expected to reach a $2-billion (1.8 billion-euro) price tag.

Now Japan is still searching for an alternative design for the stadium to welcome the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Hadid may come up with a cheaper proposal.

In the meantime, the Port of Hamburg proudly announced that the first construction phase of its new promenade was completed two months ahead of plans. This new structure, certainly not as complex as an Olympic stadium, was also conceived by Hadid. The second phase of construction is set to begin in the first week of November 2015.
