German artist Helmut Lutz has always searched beyond the borders of his own country, embracing Europe as a whole. That’s why he lives and works in the border town Breisach on the Rhein, where 96% of the residents have voted for a united Europe since 1950. Lutz takes us on a tour of his favorite locations in and around Breisach, Germany and France.

Helmut Lutz is an artist whose vision reaches beyond national borders, realizing projects all over Europe. Perhaps that's because he lives and works in the town of Breisach on the Rhine, close to the French border. Breisach is one of a handful of cities to be granted the honorary title "European City." In a nineteen- fifty poll, 96 percent of its population supported a united Europe. We asked Helmut Lutz to share his recommendations for a trip to the region.
