TT: Shanghai - The Chinese Expo

Michael BärApril 30, 2010

Welcome Back. The 2010 Shanghai EXPO opens to visitors at the week-end after its unveiling today. It will be the biggest EXPO the world has seen and also the most expensive. Some 70,000 visitors are expected to attend over the next six months. Experts say the exhibition will give further boost to an already booming region. Participants are also hoping to make a big impression. Almost every country in the world is represented - attracted by the Chinese economic boom and Shanghai's reputation as a city of the future. The motto of the exhibition is "Better City, Better Life" - it aims to showcase ways of overcoming the challenges posed by modern urban environments. But as our indepth report shows, for many people who used to live in the area, there's another ugly side to the EXPO: they've been forcibly re-located - and their homes demolished.
