Turkish parliament amends free speech barring article - je 30.04.2008 18

The Turkish parliament has amended a law which punishes "insults to Turkishness." Under the new law, insults to the Turkish nation can still lead to legal punishment, but with reduced penalties. The amendment was a move demanded by the EU as a condition for talks on membership. But human rights activists say that the right to free speech in Turkey is still under threat.
