Video released by French-language news portal lemag.ma showed the riots began on Saturday soon after the final whistle of the game in which Raja de Casablanca beat Chabab Rif Al Hoceima by two goals to one.

The footage showed supporters of Raja engaging in running battles, throwing flares and bottles at the Chabab fans and damaging parts of the Stade Mohammed V stadium. The hooligans also pelted stones at cars parked outside the stadium.

Police have arrested more than 30 people in connection with the riots and opened an inquiry into the incident.

Football riots are a common occurrence in North African countries. In February 2012, an Egyptian Premier League match between El Masry and El Ahly turned violent as thousands of El Masry fans stormed the Port Said Stadium stands and the pitch, attacking El Ahly fans. Seventy-four people were killed and more than 500 were injured in the clashes.
