When high-intensity sound waves are focused similar to the way that a magnifying glass focuses the rays of the sun, the sound waves can generate intense heat that destroys tumor cells. If this high-frequency focused ultrasound therapy proves successful, it may be a way to help patients with inoperable tumors.
