Thailand allowed UN officials to meet and interview some of the boat people detained by its authorities earlier this week on Thursday. The visit came hours after Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya met the UNHCR’s regional representative, Raymond Hall. The Thai army has recently been accused of ill-treating boat people from the ethnic Rohingya community who have fled Myanmar and Bangladesh.
