Union Against Sunday Shopping at Christmas Time

One of Germany's largest unions came out against calls by some politicians to allow German shops to open on the four Sundays before Christamas. Sunday is designated as a day of rest for businesses in Germany, but politicians from the liberal Free Democratic Party and the Greens want that to change. They argued over the weekend that the country badly needed economic impulses anywhere they could get them. The union Verdi said Monday that Germans wouldn't have enough money to spend anyway. "Sales won't increase one euro," a union spokesman said.
