US media: police probe deadly shooting at NSA HQ

Police outside of Washington, D.C. have launched an investigation into a car crash at the NSA campus. At least one person was killed, with authorities investigating a shooting at the site.

Images from the NSA facility circulated through the US media on Monday morning local time (roughly 1530 UTC) showing two heavily damaged SUVs near the entrance.

Two men disguised as women attempted to ram through the gate, according to US federal investigators.

"NSA security personnel prevented them from gaining access to the installation," the the spy agency said in a statement.

A shootout ensued, leaving on of the men dead and the other seriously injured.

The incident was not related to terrorism, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which also opened an investigation into the case.

According to the Washington Post, over 40,000 people are employed by the NSA, including 11,000 military personnel.

The NSA campus is located in Fort Meade, roughly 36 kilometers (22.5 miles) northeast of Washington, D.C.
