US Prepare Evidence for German 9/11 Trial

US authorities are preparing documents for the ongoing retrial in Germany of a Moroccan accused of involvement in the Sept.11 attacks in 2001, the judge in the trial said on Tuesday. The information promised by Washington will be released from secret files and passed to Germany, the presiding judge in the case, Ernst-Rainer Schudt, said as he read out a letter from the German interior ministry to the court. The prosecution hopes the information will shed more light on Mounir El Motassadeq's alleged role in preparing the suicide attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon which killed around 3,000 people. Motassedeq was jailed for 15 years in February 2003 for his role in the attacks, but in March 2004 a new trial was ordered because US authorities refused to allow two alleged planners of the attacks, Ramzi Binalshibh and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to testify.
