The new Golf V is a hot seller, and German auto manufacturer Volkwagen is increasing production at its Wolfsburg plant to meet the growing demand, the company said Tuesday night. Volkswagen's management and employees agreed to a new shift schedule, and they also agreed to continue Saturday shifts through the end of the year. Volkswagen had originally planned to manufacture 135,000 of the new, fifth-generation Golf, which was introduced last Friday. But with advance orders of more than 40,000, company executives have had cause to reconsider. A company spokesperson, however, declined to comment on how many additional cars would be produced. Earlier this year, Detlef Witig, Volkswagen's brand marketing manager, told the Braunschweiger Zeitung, a regional daily, that he hoped to increase sales in Germany by 10 percent, to more than 560,000 cars per year.
