The head of Volkswagen, Bernd Pischetsrieder, has again threatened to move jobs abroad. The company's management has sat down with unions to discuss wage talks at a time when Europe's biggest carmaker is seeking to impose steep cost cuts on its workforce. "It's not about merely boxing things through. What we want is to secure jobs in Germany," Pischetsrieder told the daily newspaper Berliner Zeitung in an interview. "That is vital if the relocation of labor abroad is not to increase," he added. VW management had previously issued a veiled threat to relocate jobs abroad or increase production outside of Germany if it failed to push through substantial cost-cutting plans aimed at reducing production costs by 30 percent by 2011.
