Bad Kissingen is one of the oldest spa resorts in Bavaria. In days of yore, it was a popular haunt for European aristocrats who came to enjoy mud packs and mineral springs. Then there's Bad Hindelang in the Allgaeu Alps, famous for its fresh mountain air, where guests revive their spirits with traditional, bracing Kneipp cures.

In Berchtesgaden, tourists can visit the Salt Healing Tunnel, which can apparently help improve a variety of respiratory problems like asthma or chronic bronchitis. Bad Reichenhall, meanwhile, is all about the healing properties of salt.

Stefan Reiter is a tour guide at the old salt mines in Bad Reichenhall and an expert on the region's history. Click on the video below to join him on a tour. His recommendations include Predigtstuhl Mountain, Lake Thum, and inline skating in Karlstein.
