This week we report on efforts to bring new varities of maize to Zimbabwe, a conservationist in Kenya who brings water to animals and recycling used tires. This and more on eco@africa.

This week's eco@africa is again packed full of green stories from Africa and Europe.

This week we follow two young African social entrepreneurs on a short tour through Germany. They want to see how Germans are using sustainable agriculture to increase harvest yields.

Then we visit an activist in Niger who is creating jobs for locals by making seat cushions out of used tires. After that we go to Kenya and highlight a conservationist who is bringing water directly to the wild animals in Tsavo West National Park to keep them from leaving. 

We introduce “Agropolitan City” a project in South Africa that could enhance the lives of millions of poor families in Africa.

Back in Europe we look at Cod stocks which have dropped significantly in the western Baltic as a result of overfishing. A new kind of fishing net has been designed to help.

Finally we visit Zimbabwe. Once the breadbasket of southern Africa, it is now largely dependent on food assistance due to drought. Scientists have a solution though: drought-resistant maize seed varieties.
