Welcome to eco@africa

On this week's eco@africa, we visit the massive moorlands of Congo, see how to avoid baboon break-ins in South Africa and get back to the roots with traditional African vegetables.

This week on eco@africa we again travel across Africa and Europe to bring you the latest and most innovative ideas to help make our planet a greener place.

First, we visit Nigerian schoolgirls who developed a waste-tackling app. Then we take a look at the massive moorlands of north-western Congo, where new satellite images show that the areal is 16 times bigger than previously thought, which is just another reason to protect it.

After that we investigate superfoods in our own backyards — traditional African veggies! International researchers are looking into the properties of east African vegetables like spinach and eggplant and finding mountains of vitamins and minerals that people need.

Then we head to Germany where every year 20 million tons of food are discarded because it does not meet standards or is past its sell-by date. Now an environmental activist has opened a supermarket for non-conforming food and food past its sell-by date.

Finally, back in Africa we see how a virtual fence can help residents of South Africa's Cape keep baboons from looting their kitchens.
