Weight-bearing exercise is important to preserve bone health. Studies have shown that it helps prevent loss of bone density, or even improve it. Loss of bone density and osteoporosis is a particular problem among the elderly. According to research, exercise must include high-impact jumping or brisk jogging to benefit bone health. Ordinary daily activities are not sufficiently high-impact to benefit bone density. And for measureable benefits, the high-impact activity needs to be performed regularly. Before starting an exercise program, though, it’s a good idea to check with your doctor first.
