Wolfsburg's top golascorer this season Bas Dost has been ruled out for six weeks after being injured during the club's winter training camp in Lagos on Wednesday.

The Dutch striker broke his foot in a challenge with an unnamed teammate and was immediately taken for tests, which revealed a fracture.

"At the moment, we expect Bas will have to undergo surgery," Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club's website.

"We had some very positive talks with Bas just before the injury and the result of those discussions was an enormous drive to press on. It’s very unfortunate that his plans have now been disrupted. We wish Bas all the best for a speedy recovery."

Dost has scored seven goals in the Bundesliga this season, helping Wolfsburg to finish seventh at the end of the first half of the season.

Wolfsburg face Eintracht Frankfurt in the first matchday of the second half of the season on January, 24.
