World’s Largest Solar Power Station Ready by July

The world's biggest solar power station will go online in July when the Espenhain plant near the eastern German city of Leipzig gets hooked up to the national electricity grid. According to a statement released by the Shell Solar and GEOSOL companies on Tuesday, the plant, made up of 33,500 solar panels, will be able to generate about five megawatts, enough electricity for 1,800 homes and will save some 3,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The power station will consolidate Germany’s position as the world's second largest producer of solar energy behind Japan, according to the German Environment Ministry.
