Nomor 2 Al Qaida Target Pesawat Tanpa Awak AS

Serangan pesawat tanpa awak AS di Pakistan dilaporkan mengenai wakil komandan Al Qaida. Pihak resmi Pakistan mengatakan ada indikasi al-Libi tewas, tapi milisi di Waziristan Utara mengatakan ia hidup dan selamat.

Setelah serangan pesawat tanpa awak terhadap orang nomor dua jaringan teror Al Qaida di kawasan suku Pakistan, nasib Abu Yahia al-Libi belum diketahui. Harian New York Times Selasa (0506) mengutip keterangan wakil suku Pakistan, melaporkan dalam serangan tersebut al-Libi kemungkinan besar tewas. Meski demikian menurut kantor berita AFP, lingkungan aparat keamanan di Islamabad tidak dapat mengkonfirmasi hal tersebut.

Aparat keamanan Pakistan berdasarkan keterangan dinas rahasia AS memberi informasi bahwa serangan pesawat tanpa awak Senin (05/06) di Waziristan Utara mengenai al-Libi. Juga wakil Amerika Serikat mengkonfirmasi kantor berita AFP bahwa orang nomor dua dari jaringan teror Al Qaida merupakan target serangan malam di dekat perbatasan dengan Afghanistan.

Dari pihak Pakistan disebutkan, masih belum jelas apakah al-Libi berada dalam kamp di desa Hesokhel di timur Miranshah. Senin (05/06) dini hari lokasi itu terkena dua roket dan menewaskan 15 orang. Menurut keterangan dari lingkungan militer Pakistan korban tewas belum dapat diidentifikasi.

Al-Libi adalah orang kepercayaan Osama bin Laden dan setelah kematian bin Laden dipandang sebagai salah satu kemungkinan penggantinya. Terakhir menurut keterangan AS al-Libi memimpin aksi pasukan inti Al Qaida di kawasan suku Pakistan dan mengawasi hubungan dengan anggota jaringan teror Al Qaida di kawasan dunia lainnya. Amerika Serikat menawarkan uang imbalan sebesar satu juta dollar untuk menangkap Al-Libi.

Tahun 2002 setelah tergulingnya kelompok radikal Taliban di Afghanistan, al-Libi ditahan. Tiga tahun kemudian ia berhasil melarikan diri dari penjara yang dijaga dengan pengamanan ketat di Bagram dekat Kabul. Setelah kematian bin Laden al-Libi menjadi wakil ketua baru Al Qaida Ayman al-Sawahiri.
