Ugonjwa wa Ebola wazuka Uganda

Maafisa wa afya nchini Uganda wamesema jana Jumamosi (28.07.2012 ) kuwa virusi hatari vya ugonjwa wa Ebola vimesababisha vifo vya watu 14 magharibi mwa nchi hiyo mwezi huu.

Hali hiyo imemaliza wiki kadhaa za kutafakari kuhusu chanzo cha ugonjwa huo wa ajabu ambao umesababisha watu wengi kukimbia makaazi yao.

Maafisa hao pamoja na wawakilishi kutoka shirika la afya ulimwenguni , WHO, wamewaambia waandishi habari mjini Kampala kuwa ugonjwa wa Ebola umezuka nchini Uganda.

Uchunguzi wa maabara uliofanyika katika taasisi ya uchunguzi wa virusi nchini Uganda , umethibitisha kuwa ugonjwa huo hatari ulioripotiwa huko Kibaale kwa hakika ni ugonjwa unaosababisha homa kali na kutokwa na damu wa Ebola, serikali ya Uganda na shirika la WHO zimesema katika taarifa.

Kibaale ni wilaya katika eneo la kati magharibi ya Uganda , ambako watu katika wiki za hivi karibuni wamesumbuliwa na ugonjwa wa ajabu ambao ulikuwa haujulikani unatokea wapi.

Maafisa wa afya nchini Uganda nao pia walikuwa wameshangazwa , na kutumia wiki kadha kufanya uchunguzi katika maabara ambapo hawakupata majibu.

Siku ya Ijumaa, Joaquim Saweka , mwakilishi wa WHO nchini Uganda , ameliambia shirika la habari la Associated Press kuwa watafiti hawana hakika kuwa ni ugonjwa wa Ebola , na afisa mmoja wa afya nchini Uganda alikataa uwezekano wa Ebola na kusema kuwa ni uvumi tu. Kunaonekana kuwapo na ushahidi thabiti kuwa Ebola ndio ugonjwa wenyewe.

Maafisa wa afya wamewaambia waandishi habari mjini Kampala kuwa watu 14 waliofariki ni miongoni mwa watu 20 walioambukizwa ugonjwa huo. Wawili kati ya watu walioambukizwa wametengwa kwa ajili ya uchunguzi zaidi na watafiti na maafisa wa afya. Afisa wa afya na siku chache baadaye , mwanae wa umri wa miezi minne alifariki kutokana na ugonjwa uliosababishwa na virusi vya Ebola, maafisa wamesema.

Hakuna dawa ama chanjo kwa ajili ya ugonjwa huo wa Ebola, na nchini Uganda , ambako mwaka 2000 ugonjwa huo uliwauwa watu 224 na kuwaacha maelfu zaidi wakiathirika kisaikolojia, hivi sasa unafufua hisia za kuogofya.

Kumekuwa na matukio ya hapa na pale , tangu mwaka 2007 ambapo ugonjwa huo ulipozuka na aina mpya ya virusi vya Ebola na kuuwa kiasi watu 37 katika eneo la Bundibugyo, wilaya iliyoko ndani ya Uganda karibu na mpaka na Congo, lakini haijawahi kutokea kuleta maafa kama ya mwaka 2000.
