A football club for grieving fathers

Dan had a good job and a happy relationship; the only thing missing in his life was a child. One year ago, his daughter died shortly before being born. The Sands United football club has helped him grieve, as all team members share the same tragedy.

Dan Perez plays defense for Sands United in Kent, southern England. In 2019, he and his partner lost their daughter Hallie in the 38th week of pregnancy just two weeks before term. Not long after, Dan heard about the soccer club and did not hesitate. It's his way of coping with the pain, but it's also about sports achievement. His team has recently begun competing officially in the leisure leagues and is now putting all they've got into scoring their first victory. A Report by Birgit Maaß.
