Mönchengladbach and Frankfurt draw

Jeffrerson ChaseApril 17, 2015

It was an entertaining goalless draw in Frankfurt on Friday night, as the hosts held an in-form Borussia Mönchengladbach with both goalkeepers busy and on-form.

Looking to defend third place in the table and an automatic spot in the Champions League, Borussia Mönchengladbach were the more aggressive and technically better side in the first half.

Patrick Herrmann was presented with a golden opportunity after ten minutes following a through ball from Max Kruse. But Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp was equal to him, on a good night for the German keeper.

Playmaker Raffael had the ball in the soon after, but his goal was correctly ruled out for offside. It wasn't the only time the Foals were caught out by Frankfurt's offside trap on a good night for both side's defensively.

After the break, it was the hosts who were on the front foot. After an hour they had eleven shots on goal to Gladbach's seven, but weren't able to beat Yann Sommer in the Mönchengladbach goal.

Instead, it was the away side that almost stole a win in the dying seconds. A mazy run from substitute Ibrahima Traoré lead to substitute Thorgan Hazard shooting at goal, but again Trapp was equal to the effort.

Mönchengladbach will host second-placed Wolfsburg next Sunday, whilst Frankfurt travel to Borussia Dortmund.
