Applause for 'Schumann at Pier2' in Montreal

Director Christian Berger presented the film at the renowned Canadian festival.

'Schumann at Pier2' is the second DW production to make the cut for the Montreal World Film Festival. In 2010, 'The Beethoven Project' also directed by Christian Berger, became the first DW production selected to run at the event. Many in the audience who had seen the previous film were excited to see the sequel. After the screenings, director Christian Berger took questions from the audience. Some of the reactions were truly euphoric and there were calls for further such productions with conductor Paavo Järvi.

'Schumann at Pier2' also received warm praise from Stanley Asher, presenter of the 'Arts Notebook' show on „radio centre-ville Montréal“. DW project leader Rolf Rische said: "Deutsche Welle's participation at the World Film Festival Montreal is a great honour and shows once again the high quality of our television productions."

Among the stars at the 36th Festival des Films du Monde were Oscar-winning director Volker Schlöndorff, Japanese actor Ken Takakura and Norwegian actor Liv Ullmann. The Canadian festival, which this year showcased 432 films from 80 countries, is one of the most important worldwide.

The official release event for 'Schumann at Pier2' will be held on 26 October at Berlin's Kino International. 'Schumann at Pier2' will be broadcast on DW in two parts: on 4 and 11 November. Arte will show a 52-minute version of the film on 4 November.
