Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in "Terminator Genisys," the fifth sequel of the sci-fi film series that made him famous as an action hero in the 1980s. He was in Berlin for the European premiere of the movie.

In the latest installment of the cult series, the former governor of California plays an older Terminator travelling through time to fight against the young one he depicted back in the first film in 1984.

Instead of using footage from the original "Terminator" movie, the production hired a bodybuilder to perform the younger version of Schwarzenegger and used digital effects to reproduce his face.

The film was directed by Alan Taylor ("Thor - The Dark Kingdom") and also stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, J.K. Simmons and Byung-hun Lee.

"It feels wonderful to be back in Germany and to have the premiere of 'Terminator' happen here in Berlin," Schwarzenegger said on the red carpet before the European premiere of the film on Sunday (21.06.2015). The world release of the film is planned on July 1, 2015.

Beyond the red carpet atmosphere, the Austrian-born actor expressed "unspeakable sadness" in reaction to tragic news coming from his home country. Three people were killed and dozens injured by a car rampage in Graz on Saturday. "We must act together to better recognize psychological illnesses and reduce unnecessary violence," Schwarzenegger told the German press agency dpa.
