German carmaker Audi has sold 389,970 vehicles in the first half of 2004 -- the best ever sales result in the company's history, Audi officials said on Tuesday. With sales of €12.3 billion ($14.8 billion), the company raked in €336 million in profits, up 16.3 percent compared to the same period last year. While sales in China and the US slumped, the Volkswagen subsidiary did well in Spain, Britain, eastern Europe and Japan, according to company officials. The jump in exports counters a decline in the domestic German market.
