Bayern avoids big name in CL quarters

German league leaders Bayern Munich are set to take on Portuguese side FC Porto in the quarterfinals of Europe's biggest club competition. There are some other huge matchups set for April too.

While the highlight of Friday's Champions League draw in Nyon was undoubtedly the scheduled repeat of last year's Champions League final, Bayern Munich will be relatively pleased with their opponent for the quarterfinal of Europe's premier club competition.

The Germans, set to play against Porto in the third week of April, will initially travel to Portugal for the first leg, before returning to the Allianz Arena in Munich the week after.

Elsewhere, Paris St. Germain will play Barcelona in what promises to be a star-studded encounter, while Juventus Turin take on Monaco and a Spanish derby will light up Madrid, as Atletico play Real.

Speaking after the announcement of the draw in Munich, Bayern striker Thomas Müller said that it "could have been worse" for his team but that Bayern will still have to watch out.

"Portuguese teams like to play, they don't just stand back and defend, but they have fast players," Müller's captain Philipp Lahm added, speaking to reporters after the draw. "We will have to do our homework on the opposition."

Bayern, who are currently leading Germany's domestic Bundesliga competition by 11 points, are Germany's last representative in Europe's top club tournament after Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen were all knocked out at the Round of 16 stage.

Wolfsburg get Napoli in Europa League

In the Europa League, Germany's other remaining European representative this season, VfL Wolfsburg, has been drawn against Italian Serie A side Napoli.

The Wolves, who have won all but two of their games so far in 2015, progressed to the quarterfinals after beating Inter Milan on Thursday.

"Napoli is fourth on the Italian table and they will surely be stronger than Inter," said Wolfsburg's commercial manager Klaus Allofs to German broadcaster Sky. "It will be a big challenge for us."

In the other three Europa League knockout games Sevilla is set to play Zenit St Petersburg, Dnipro take on Belgian side Brugge and Dynamo Kyiv are up against the other Italian side remaining in the competition, Fiorentina.
