Champions League draw: Bayern vs. Barca

German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are set to take on Spanish club FC Barcelona in their Champions League semifinal on May 6. That was the result of a semifinals draw in Nyon in Switzerland on Friday.

In the other semi, Italian Serie A side Juventus will play last year's Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Speaking directly after the draw, Bayern's sporting director Matthias Sammer said that his team's chances were "50-50" against Barca.

"I had the feeling that we would get Barcelona in the draw," Sammer said to gathered journalists at the club's headquarters in Munich. "Only football writes these sorts of scripts. I'm looking forward to it."

The return leg of the tie will be played on May 12 in Munich. The Champions League final, due to take place on June 6, is set to take place in Berlin at the city's Olympic Stadium.

The Pep derby

Bayern Munich will go into their game against Barca with a good knowledge of their opponents, though. The German club's head coach Pep Guardiola guided Barcelona's first team from 2008 to 2012, picking up the Champions League title twice.

"It will be a very special game for me, for Thiago and the staff. It's Barcelona, it's my home," Guardiola said on Friday.

Despite Bayern's strong performance in the second leg of their quarterfinal, Barcelona's good form and strong attacking trio of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi are already being eyed cautiously.

"It would be unfair to say that it would have been easier to have been drawn against Juventus or Real," Bayern club legend Paul Breitner said at the draw in Nyon.

"We played one of the best halves ever in the history of the Champions League against Porto. Now, we know that we need to put in that sort of performance twice over 90 minutes to get into the final."

In Europe's second-tier club competition, the Europa League, Napoli was drawn against Dnipro and Sevilla will play Fiorentina.
