Berlin global ideas

From the Global Ideas office, we have a great aerial view of the city of Berlin. And in the summer, we like to leave the building and take a closer look at the ways the city and its people are working to protect the climate. This week, we visit a workshop where what was once trash is transformed into treasure: discarded tins and caps are turned into kitchen furniture, children’s toys and even office accessories. It saves resources, energy and cuts down on waste, but also provides job opportunities to people with mental or physical disabilities who often struggle to find employment. We also get to know a climate activist who is fighting to make us take responsibility for our carbon footprints, one green stripe at a time. As we head into the dog days of summer, we’re taking the opportunity to put Berlin climate initiatives – and the people behind them – in the spotlight.
