 - Borussia Dortmund turned in arguably the season's best performance in their 6-1 demolition of Borussia Mönchengladbach. BVB now have 16 points from six matches, their best ever start to a season, and their goal difference of plus 18 is the best after six games in Bundesliga history. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang got a hat trick.

- Julian Nagelsmann won the battle of the one-time classmates as his Hoffenheim side eased past Domenico Tedesco's Schalke in an even game notable for the first professional goal of young midfielder Dennis Geiger.

- There was also a first for Julian Weigl, who got his first Bundesliga goal on his 62nd appearance in the competition. The 22-year-old got the sixth in Dortmund's rout.

- Lucas Alario didn't have to wait as long for his first Bundesliga strike. The Argentine forward made his long-awaited Leverkusen debut on Sunday and scored after 23 minutes, as Bayer beat Hamburg 3-0.

- Timo Werner continued to demonstrate his status as the best German striker in the business with a sharply taken goal in Leipzig's 2-1 win over Frankfurt on Saturday. His five goals in six games mean he's the highest scoring player under the age of 21 in Europe's top five leagues this term.

- Martin Schmidt's reign at Wolfsburg got an early shot in the arm as his side came from two down to take a point against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. After an unconvincing draw with struggling Bremen in his first game in charge, second half strikes from Max Arnold and Daniel Didavi will surely provide a confidence boost to a club that have struggled badly in recent times.

- Leon Bailey made the most of his first Bundesliga start. The Jamaican youngster set up both of Leverksuen's goals in the club's 3-0 win over Hamburg on Sunday. It was HSV's fourth loss in a row.

- Cologne finally have a point, but they got it with another goal-less performance in Hannover.

Injury news

Nadim Amiri was forced off in the first half of Hoffenheim's win but the club confirmed after the game that he had only suffered a slight knock.

Ja-Cheol Koo suffered a head injury in Augsburg's goalless draw with Stuttgart and looks a doubt for their home game with Dortmund next Saturday.

Bizarre Bundesliga

Christoph Kramer took to the pitch in a rather fetching mask on Saturday in Gladbach's hammering by Dortmund. The midfielder, who famously suffered a head injury in the 2014 World Cup final, suffered two further blows to the head in the last week - firstly against Leipzig and then against Stuttgart. With concerns over head injuries growing, the Germany international may now have to wear the head gear in every game.

Elsewhere, Leverkusen had a rare penalty area free kick against Hamburg. Hamburg's Gotoku Sakai passed the ball back to his goalkeeper, Christian Mathenia, who kicked the ball straight into the air. Trying to amend his mistake, Mathenia punched the ball over the head of Charles Aranguiz, an illegal play. Referee Robert Kampka set up the free kick just outside Hamburg's six-yard box, but Leverkusen could not take advantage of the situation as Wendell hit the free kick straight into Hamburg's wall.
