Blogging, Posting and Streaming - Brazil's new media and the protest movement

Brazil has the world's second-largest Twitter and Facebook scene, after the US. Social media, blogger forums and other media platforms on the internet are the new sources of discussion and information.

Since the mass protests last June, alternative information channels have become increasingly popular. A collective of more than 1500 volunteers all over the country are gathering material on their laptops and mobile phones. The videos and photos go right on to the net. During the demonstrations in June, each of the Ninja live streams from the streets reached several thousand viewers. Established broadcasters are now closely watching what the competition on the internet is broadcasting - or writing.
