Initial reports indicated that a bomb had claimed the lives of several Yemeni air force personnel and wounded other passengers on board a military bus in Yemen on Sunday.

An official speaking on condition of anonymity told the Associated Press news agency there were 20 casualties, though it was unclear if all 20 had been killed in the blast.

A separate official put the death toll at six people, according to the news agency AFP.

The vehicle was travelling through Sanaa en route to a local military base at the time of the explosion. It was not immediately how many passengers were on board.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Yemen has been battling nationwide instability since the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh in December 2011. The country faces a rise in violence, with its military repeatedly coming under attack by fighters linked to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
