A bomb scare caused yet another passenger jet originating in Germany to be diverted from its planned destination, the Reuters news agency reported. The scare later turned out to be a false alarm. The Singapore Airlines flight, en route from Frankfurt to New York, had 312 passengers on board. The German pilot was told there may be a bomb aboard the Boeing 747-400, which then made an unscheduled landing in Manchester, England. The passengers deplaned there. "It looks very much like a false alarm," a police spokeswoman said. The authorities didn't say who had issued the bomb threat. It is the fourth time in a week that an airplane was diverted due to a bomb threat. Last week a British Airways flight going from Berlin to London had to stop in Amsterdam, and two Olympic Airlines planes en route from Athens to New York were diverted to the UK. and Ireland. In none of the cases were explosives ever found.
