US investment fund Capital Group Companies has become the largest single shareholder in German chemicals and pharmaceuticals giant Bayer, Bayer revealed in a mandatory legal filing published in the German press on Wednesday. Capital Group's shareholding in the German maker of Aspirin rose above the key threshold of 5 percent to 5.037 percent on August 18, Bayer said in a statement published in the financial daily Börsen-Zeitung. And on its Web site, Bayer said that "we are aware of no other single shareholder that holds more than 5 percent." Data published by the German stock exchange showed that all of Bayer's capital had been in free float at the end of June.
