Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are to take on Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League for the third time in five seasons. The Bavarians have dominated their English rivals in Europe's premier club competition, having won all of their previous ties at this stage and beating the Gunners to first-place in the group phase last season.

This is the first serious hurdle for Bayern in the Champions League under head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has won the tournament twice previously. Although Bayern beat Atletico Madrid on the last matchday of the group stage, the Spanish side finished atop their group.

Under Ancelotti's predecessor, Pep Guardiola, Bayern fell short at the semifinal stage last season, with Diego Simeone's men booking their spot in the final.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund were rewarded with a meeting against Portuguese giants Benfica. Thomas Tuchel's side finished ahead of Real Madrid in to top their group after picking up a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu on Matchday 6.

Benfica, who were European champions in 1961 and 1962, collected eight points against Besiktas, Napoli and Dynamo Kyiv to make the last 16 and are competing in the Champions League for the seventh successive season.

Germany's third representative in the last 16, Bayer Leverkusen, have been handed a difficult task as they are to face Atletico Madrid, last season's defeated finalists. Leverkusen, eighth in the Bundesliga, have lost in the first knockout stage in three of their last four attempts.

The first legs are to take place on 14-15 and 21-22 February, while the return legs are to be scheduled over 7-8 and 14-15 March.
