China is searching for new transport routes to Western markets. One crosses Central Asia and passes through Georgia, which is the only country in the region which has a free trade agreement with China and the European Union. Beijing is one of Georgia's most important trading partners – and is investing millions in Georgian businesses and infrastructure.
