Joshua Kimmich, 21 (Bayern Munich)

Arriving from VfB Stuttgart via a loan spell at RB Leipzig in 2015, Joshua Kimmich was given his chance at Bayern Munich by Pep Guardiola, who admired his versatility. A midfielder by trade, the youngster has sometimes featured at right-back. He has contributed seven goals so far this season in all competitions.

Serge Gnabry, 21 (Werder Bremen)

After an unsuccessful spell at Arsenal, Gnabry announced his arrival at Werder Bremen this season with a thunderous strike against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 3. The striker has continued to make an impact with four more goals as Werder climbed out of the relegation zone. Oh, and he also scored a hat-trick on his full international debut for Germany.

Timo Werner, 20 (RB Leipzig)

Signed from relegated Stuttgart for €10m in the summer, Werner's eight Bundesliga goals have been key to RB Leipzig's stunning start to the season. The 20-year-old became the youngest player to score twice in one game as RB beat Hamburg 4-0 on Matchday 3. He caused controversy when he dived to win a penalty against Schalke on Matchday 13.

Timo Horn, 23 (FC Cologne)

Born and bred in Cologne, Horn has come through the ranks at his local club to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. Starting the season with three clean sheets in a row, he had only conceded seven goals before picking up an injury against Frankfurt on Matchday 10. Cologne owe their impressive start in no small part to their keeper.

Julian Brandt, 20 (Bayer Leverkusen)

With ten goals and eight assists last season and three goals and five assists already this season, 20-year-old Brandt has established himself as a key creative asset for Roger Schmidt's side. His creativity and goal threat from midfield will be vital if Leverkusen are to challenge for the European places in the second half of the season.

Ousmane Dembele, 19 (Borussia Dortmund)

Borussia Dortmund moved quickly in the summer to secure the services of one of Europe's most highly-rated prospects and the young Frenchman has taken the Bundesliga by storm with his tricky dribbles and direct style of play. With 10 assists and 4 goals to his name this season, Dembele has stood out among a whole raft of exciting young Dortmund signings. However, questions still remain over his final ball, his decision making and his work rate.
