Concerned about South Africa's sole reactor

DW readers wrote in to tell us about nuclear energy policy where they live.

In South Africa, we have one reactor: Koeberg. This lies on a known "fault," i.e. on a possible earthquake line. It is designed to withstand an earthquake of 7.0. Japan's was almost nine. Now they want to build a second reactor close to this one. Madness!

-- Siegfried Heiriss, South Africa

The debate is long overdue. We in Cape Town are situated two kilometers, as the crow flies, from a nuclear power station and there are constantly problems which we are never properly informed about.

-- Ingrid, South Africa
