As the first representative of a foreign media organization to do so, Erik Bettermann awarded the TEFI Television Prize in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russia. TEFI is the most prestigious television award in Russia and is presented every year for the best TV productions by regional stations. Bettermann handed over the prize in the category "Historical Documentary."

Prior to the award ceremony, the DW Director General met with Tatari Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov. The two agreed on a plan to intensify media and cultural cooperation between DW and the media of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Also in Kazan, Bettermann signed a contract with STP-Content, Russia's leading regional TV network, regarding the broadcast of DW's new Russian-language TV magazine Geofaktor. The network already redistributes the Russian version of DW magazine Euromaxx and DW Transtel documentaries. STP-Content provides 38 regional TV stations with a 20-hour program package, which reaches an estimated 40 million viewers.

With Geofaktor, which consists of 15-minute episodes, Deutsche Welle is strengthening its media presence in the Russian Federation and promoting dialog between Russia and Europe. The magazine covers German, European and Russian politics and economics, combining adaptations of DW satellite TV programs and original Russia-focused reports.

Geofaktor is broadcast every Saturday in prime time via DW's partner station Expert-TV and rebroadcast several times over the following three days. Expert-TV has a technical reach of around 19 million viewers.

In Moscow, Bettermann spoke with the Director General of RBC-TV, the country's leading economic news channel, about deepening the existing partnership and incorporating DW programs into RBC-TV broadcasts.
