De Jong joins Mönchengladbach

Striker Luuk de Jong has joined Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Dutch international is the fourth major signing for the German team this summer. He is Mönchengladbach's most expensive signing ever.

Dutch striker Luuk de Jong signed for Borussia Mönchengladbach Wednesday on a five-year deal from the Eredivisie's Twente Enschede. The fee is believed to be between 12 and 15 million euros ($14.7 to $18.4 million), making him the Bundesliga club's most expensive signing to date.

"We are happy that the transfer has finally taken place and that Luuk can travel with us to our training camp at Tegernsee Friday," Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said.

The 21-year-old has seven caps for the Netherlands, and scored 39 goals in 75 games for Twente.

De Jong is the fourth major summer signing for Mönchengladbach, who will play in this year's Champions League after finishing fourth in the Bundesliga last season. Spanish defender Alvaro Dominguez signed from Atletico Madrid in June for 8 million euros. The club also signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka from Basel and striker Peniel Mlapa from Hoffenheim for 8.5 million and 2.5 million euros respectively.

The summer spending comes off the back of Marco Reus' sale to Borussia Dortmund. The German international signed for the Bundesliga champions in January for 17.5 million euros.
