Dortmund, who had beaten the Premier League's second-placed side 3-0 in the first leg, took the second 2-1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Spurs away with his 34th and 35th goals of the season in all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund secured a place in the Europa League quarterfinals on Thursday after a 5-1 aggregate win over Premier League side Tottenham. Thomas Tuchel's men turned the screw at White Hart Lane with a double from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

After a tight start, the game was disrupted by a collision between Spurs defender Ben Davies and keeper Hugo Lloris. Davies was replaced a few minutes later by Danny Rose after going down again with what appeared to be a problem as a result of the earlier clash.

On 28 minutes, the visitors took the lead as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang produced a moment of brilliance out of nothing to score the club's 109th goal of the season in all competitions. Henrikh Mkhitaryan should have doubled their lead before the break, but he took too long when bearing down on goal.

Aubameyang was presented with a good opening in the 58th minute, but the Gabon ace lost his balance in the box and slammed the ball high into the stand behind the goal. He didn't miss on another golden chance, in the 70th minute, as he drilled the ball past Lloris from close range.

Tottenham, without top scorer Harry Kane, created few chances and needed a mistake from Neven Subotic to get on the scoresheet. The defender's pass was slack and Son Heung-Min took advantage, scoring for the sixth time against Dortmund in his career.

Tuchel's side could face Villarreal, Sparta Prague, Athletic Bilbao, Shakhtar Donestk, Liverpool, Sevilla or Braga in the quarterfinals. The draw takes place at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon at 1200 CET on Friday.
