Outcasts in Thailand - Brother Bernd and the AIDS Orphans

https://p.dw.com/p/1Fcs2

Thailand is a popular tourist destination. But it’s not just the fascinating culture and fantastic beaches that draw visitors to this Southeast Asian country. Thailand is also popular for sex tourism. A consequence is that one million Thais are infected with the HIV virus. When the first Divine Word missionaries arrived here in 1999, they discovered that HIV was not only killing Thais but orphaning countless children. Many of these youngsters are themselves infected with the virus and are ostracized by their families as a result. The Catholic missionary Brother Bernd, a trained nurse, devotes his life to these social outcasts.
