A transport of nuclear waste from a town near Dresden in eastern Germany to a dumping site for radio-active materials in North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany was successfully completed without major disturbances early Tuesday morning. The convoy with six so-called Castor containers was blocked shortly by some 150 to 200 protestors, who tried to prevent the trucks from reaching their final destination. The protestors were carried off the road by policemen, 1,000 of whom guarded the transport. Two other convoys are planned in the coming days.
